What’s on in Wellington this August?

August 4, 2026

Looking for things to do in Wellington this Winter? We’ve put together some activities happening around our city this August.

Alan Davies tour

Saturday, 8 August

Micheal Fowler Center

Critically acclaimed stand-up comedian, actor, writer, and TV personality Alan Davies is heading to Wellington in 2026. His new show, ‘Think Ahead’, marks his first visit to Aotearoa in a decade. Like the latest instalment of his memoirs, White Male Stand-Up, the performance covers his extensive career, and the highs and lows he’s experienced. Alan says the show is about a late middle-aged stand-up comic. He thinks he’s Marty McFly, but he’s older than Doc Brown. He spends more time in the pharmacy than the gym and is subjected to relentless eye rolls from his kids.

Atomic

Friday, 14 August

Opera House

Sing, dance, and lose yourself in a monster setlist of era-defining songs. Led by powerhouse vocalist and Musical Director Julia Deans, Atomic! brings together a who’s-who of Aotearoa’s most celebrated musicians. Together, they take on songs from the iconic catalogues of Blondie, Eurythmics, Pretenders, Kate Bush, Florence + The Machine, Madonna, and more. The set list spans generations and is reimagined with the kind of energy only New Zealand wahine musicians can deliver. Julia is joined by Boh Runga, Dianne Swann, Vera Ellen, and Jazmine Mary.

George Motz, Burger Scholar

Monday, 25 August

Opera House

George has devoted his life to the humble burger, tracing its origins from 13th-century Mongolia to its current place as an American staple. He has made films, written books, and even taught university courses dedicated to the dish.

On stage, George will guide the audience through his ‘History of the Burger’. Expect a few surprises, along with the kind of detail only a self-described ‘burger scholar’ can deliver.

Visa Welly on a plate
