Election Fever…..what does it mean for your home?

With an election on the horizon, you might be wondering: “What on earth does an election have to do with my house?”

Well, quite a bit… but probably not as much as you might think.

Around election time, buyers can sometimes press the pause button while they wait to see what happens. They may feel a little more cautious about making big decisions, which can mean fewer people actively buying and a little more negotiating at the kitchen table.

And here in Wellington, we can sometimes feel this a bit more strongly, given the size of our public sector and the uncertainty that can come with changes in government.

But here’s the good news… an election doesn’t automatically mean property prices are going down.

Once the election dust settles and everyone knows who’s driving the bus, confidence can return and those buyers who have been sitting on the sidelines can suddenly become rather interested again!

So, if you’re thinking about buying or selling, don’t panic and don’t put everything on hold just because there’s an election coming.

The golden rule is still the same: great homes, priced realistically and marketed well, will always attract attention.

And if you’re thinking about making a move, we’re always happy to have a chat about what the market is doing in your neck of the woods.
